Myasthenia Gravis Symptoms

Muscle weakness caused by Myasthenia Gravis worsens as the affected muscle is used. Symptoms usually improve with rest, muscle weakness can come and go.

The first signs and symptoms of Myasthenia Gravis (MG) start in the muscles around the eyes. The eyelids start drooping and make it hard to coordinate eye movement, along with having double vision.

In about 15% of people with Myasthenia Gravis (MG), the first symptoms involve face and throat muscles, which can impair speaking, affect chewing, and impact swallowing and facial expressions. Myasthenia Gravis can also cause weakness in your neck, arms, and legs.

Talk to your doctor if you have difficulty breathing, seeing, swallowing, chewing, walking, using your arms or hands, and holding up your head, as these may be signs of Myasthenia Gravis.
